Please make sure and check your cargo loading as you prepare a flight. We are leaving a lot of money on the table if we do not load to safe limits. 30% capacity on cargo flights is too low. Same goes for Pax flights... Thank you for your help on this.

Ah, yes! We can hardly comply with Grizz's exhortation if we leave a lot of potential payload on the truck.

On the other hand, keep in mind your ZFW limits.

BTW, I notice that VAFS seems to think I can stuff 64,000 lbs and change into a 752 pax flight. That may be within the realm of possibilities for a pure cargo flight, but for a pax flight I worry that we might be in violation of the Geneva Convention (and others) if we assume too spartan (not to be confused with a certain twin-engined cargolifter, Tim!) an interior fit.

Also BTW, one is not going to load to the ZFW limit, and get out of Reykjavik intact (gentle reminder...)

But, please (for your own sake's, possibly) keep in mind Grizz's admonition (see his post)! Look up and memorize your bird's MZFW (Maximum Zero-Fuel Weight) and MLDW (Maximum Landing Weight), as well as your MTOW (Maximum Takeoff Weight). It doesn't take an excessive effort to figure out: you will break something expensive if you're over the MLDW on touchdown, while the airline makes less money if we don't carry lots of people and stuff.

I use FSBuild 2.4 and ActiveSky Evolution (ASE) for my flight planning. They work well for me (with a few caveats!). Give a glimpse at the Weather Channel before you set up; it's generally lower-48, but it can at least help you spot trends along southern Canada. There are resources out there...

Well, slap my ass and call me Sally....I thought that runway length was pretty short for a 757! It required max braking and a tightening up of the ol' sphincter but I got it stopped with at least 6 or 7 feet to spare on Rwy 19. Oh, did I forget the 11 knot crosswind? Anyway, to say the cargo load will be at a MINIMUM along with just enough fuel to get me to jolly old England (with appropriate reserves.....just in case there are any inspectors lurking out there) on the flight out of BIRK is an understatement!!!

Jeff, can we get this fixed before I have to turn around and come back from EGLL? Please? My blood pressure and laundry would appreciate it greatly.

Actually, I find maximum performance short-field takeoffs a heck of a lot more fun than trying it the other way around! You should be able to drag a few tons out of BIRK, if you take the "long" runway and are only going to EGLL

I don't know why changing the routes to/from BIRK to BIKF (as it should have been from the git-go!) has taken so long...

Relax Dave... It is now done... I will be training someone else to add routes so these can get done more quickly. I have apologized for the delay and that is where I will leave it.

OK... the BIRK/BIKF shuffle is completed... What scenery is out there that is freeware/payware... Anybody have any leads?

For Icelandic Scenery payware go Aerosoft. They offer the whole Island and also offer a highly superb BIKF. Will post pics in this thread if you want.

A problem occurs which is of an opposute nature to the discussion above when planning for very long range flights, such as the recently-added FedEx 74Y flights, suh as VHHH-KMEM or KMEM-RJAA: in order to successfully execute these flights with some degree of realism, a fairly comprehensive combintion of flight planning and weather review is required. In most (perhaps all) of the aircraft in our fleet, maximum payload and maximum fuel cannot be loaded simultaneously, as you will exceed the maximum takeoff weight. Indeed, simply loading max fuel plus whatever is left over for payload often will not suffice: since gas turbine engined aircraft get better mileage at higher altitudes, it may be necessary on occasion to leave some (or a lot of) payload behind in order to achieve a more economical flight level during initial segment cruise. A 74Y taking off with maximum allowable payload and fuel to make maximum takeoff weight is only a 4300 NM airplane; reducing the payload and increasing the fuel load can enable you to get between 7300 and 8100 NM with maximum fuel and depending on payload being carried.

Also, if you use real-world weather, keep in mind that sometimes the gods will not want you to make the flight. The winds aloft could easily conspire and combine to make a particular route either prohibitively expensive or outright impossible to fly on a given day. Also note that turbulence will adversely affect your fuel economy. Plan a flight somewhere else in that case...
