| Tim got it... These are the ever present volcanic obstacles one would be wise to avoid while flying to approach into the Kamchatka and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky area. Dave pointed these out when he was testing the route Scenery by Aerosoft Jeff | |

| I believe that nearer lithocumulus in the picture is named Koryaksky, and is over 11,000' high. Pretty big for a terrestrial volcano.

| Roger that! And, since it's quite extensive vertically, I figure the "cumulus" type is appropriate... Ironically, the geological term for this type of volcano is, "stratovolcano"; this refers to the internal scructure of the cone.
BTW, for those (like me) who can't afford payware scenery, or (also like me) don't run FSX, Simviation has 70-m SRTM mesh for downlooad. I first discovered this thanks to my lady, whose mother hails from Legaspi City in the Philippenes; she told me about the local volcano there, Mayon. So, I went there in the sim, and couldn't find anything matching the description I had of the volcano. There was a rather ugly, assymetrical lump of rock to the north of the runway at RPLP, not nearly as tall or symmetrical as Mayon. "It must be on the other side of the lump", I thought...but the lump was it!
I found the mesh for that area, installed it, and the difference is amazing! Some areas in FS9 seem to be depicted rather well, but others definitely need help.
To paraphrase Descartes, "Cogito, ergo aftermarket"...

| One other thought, Jeff -
Since you posted the screenshot, I take it you flew the run to UHPP; did you use PADK, or was it direct from PANC? Since it can be pulled off with an MD-82, flying direct should be no problemo for an -83...you could even put the six rows of seats back in, since short-field takeoffs won't be required if the "pit stop" is dropped, and make a few bucks on this turn!
BTW, it looks like I was able to successfully "tweak" the Leo's fuel tankage to that of the -83, although the additional 1130 gallons is in an enlarged center tank eather than in a pair of additional fuselage tanks; since most all -82s built after introduction of the -83 share the same wing structure, converting a r/w -82 to the -83 spec is nominally possible, although some landing gear components might need to be swapped out to cater for the higher MTOW of the latter. There's probably an STC out there for that.
